those of you who are fortunate enough to have a *healthy* iguana *and* a competent vet, are luckier than what you realize ...

you need to realize that not all of us are as fortunate ... Draco's vet for instance, admittedly did not know what to do ...

in the future, i will be sure to reference the source of my information ... for instance, the Baytril dose is from Dr. Mader's text ... (not all vet's are fortunate enough to own his textbook) ... i am merely sharing information, i am *not* actually dispensing medication ...

the protocols for rehydrating that i wrote are very basic, emergency medicine protocols ...

in the past 3 yrs, i have been to ten different vets with iZ ... only 2 were actually *knowledgeable* as far as ig health goes ... one of the 10 actually nearly killed iZ when she restrained him and turned him on his back for 15 min. while she tried to get a blood sample ... (i guess she missed class the day they taught that since iguanas have no diaphram, when placed on their backs, they cannot breathe? i shudder to think what would have happened if i hadn't wandered back there, wondering what the heck was taking so long ... ) ... the other 7 vets fall somewhere between the 2 extremes ...

my point??? the letters DVM after someone's name do *not* impress me, nor do they insure that the person knows diddley-squat about which end of the ig is up ... but i will either carefully reference my sources or send my advice via private e-mail in the future to avoid the hoopla i seem to cause ...

Bon. (Mom, not DVM)
