I took in a ig just over a month ago that I was able to adopt out w/i a couple of days, to someone who was "recommended" and who I "knew" from frequent "pet" $tore visits. Tho he said the ig was for his 14-year-old son, he said he would help take care of it, etc. (The dad keeps turtles)
Anyway, I allowed them to take her home on a Thursday night before I was going camping for the weekend, and said we would be in touch upon my return, so he can let me know if he would keep her. I didn't have my adoption form printed up yet, but went over with him the details, and the fact that we would "finalize" the adoption with that upon my return if they chose to keep her. Long story short, I had difficulty reaching him on the phone, then getting him to commit to a date to meet. I stressed to him when he picked her up the need for her to see a vet. When I agreed to take her from her previous keeper, I hadn't seen her first, and was told she was healthy and well taken care of. When she was brought to my house, it was clear that while the previous keeper may have thought he was taking care of her, she was clearly unhealthy, all of which I expressed to the prospective keeper. Well, after 3 weeks, I sent him a certified letter, which he failed to pick up, and a week later (last week) I sent him a regular letter with a copy of the previous letter, which also included a copy of my adoption form. I suspected that based on the requirements, they may not want to keep her, and needless to say, they called me Saturday and returned her on Sunday. Now her nose and her foremost horn look messed up and when I asked about it, they said it was "red from the sawdust" they kept on the bottom...Aaaaarrrrggghhhh! I could see it was not simply that, and a bath did not remove it, so this is probably another "physical problem" for this poor little thing who was already stunted, lost half her tail and many of her spikes, and shows clear signs of MBD.
She has an appointment with the vet on 9/30 and I will be keeping her. I will post her pic when I get home so you can see how beautiful she is nonetheless.
Sorry, this is so long...had to vent :-)
