as pointed out from someone else, stealing it doesn't help the overall goals of rescue groups. Yes it's a crime or should be, to treat any animal or reptile wrongfully, but that doesn't make it right for you to break the law too.
Plain and simple, you did wrong.....as did the owner of the pet store. I hope you think about this alittle more before ever doing something like that again. First option is to talk to the owner of the store, if no results come from that, contact agency for animal rights and file a complaint. There might be laws being broken by the owner of the shop and the agency will have to enforce it.
It's sad that many reptiles and animals in pet stores, die each year, but stealing isn't the answer.
