Regular household bulbs do not have uv capacity but the florescent bulbs don't use all that much power. If you want to save money on power bill your best bet is to cut back on usege around the house. Change your bulbs around the house to lower wattage ie.60watts to 40watts. I have 11 reptiles and have had to be creative to save money usual bills are beetween 70 and 80 dolars some of the things I've done are instead of using a heating pad for my snakes I put them on my bd cage which is 5ft by 4ft by 3ft and the raidiant heat from the cage keeps the snakes warm the only problem is it heats the entire bottom so I had to place a elivated area to allow them to getaway from the heat. In your ig's cage you sould be able to getaway w/a lower wattage bulbs just get a themomitor from radio shack that has a high low mem. place it in the cage and monitor the temp. and ajust the bulbs acordingly and you should be able to get away w/only one ceramic bulb at night. Hope this helps good luck.
