: Took in 2 new rescues last night, a pair, about 4.5 feet. These two were kept in a 50 gallon breeder tank with a chandelier light bulb and 2 small heat rocks. As far as I know they were fed romaine, carrots and pelleted food. They have changed hands 3 times since I first heard of them on August 10th. The first thing we did was give them a bath and watched the water turn muddy brown......yuck!! They are doing surprisingly well, eating and basking and seemingly quite relaxed. The male was to the vet today for a check on a couple things. Nothing major going on but we have to watch a hard swelling on his leg for a couple weeks. When he is rehabbed and nourished a little better we may do a biopsy. The female is lovely, beautiful colors and quite heavy. We have observed some toe tremors and muscle twitches so have started them both on a healthy calcium regimen. This sure is disheartening.
: Here are some pics if you'd like to see these two.
hi i like the iguanas you rescued i went to a pet shop last week with my brother the guy just bought the place from somebody else i felt bad he had a male around 3 feet nice i n a 55gallon tank the poor animal had just a dirty water bowl nothing else no heat or lights no substrate. the othe 2 wer beautiful peruvian iguanas male and female about same size beautiful colors not like the ones you and i have i never seen beautiful greens and blues . he ad the both in a wire cage about 4feet high 2feet deep 3feet wide they had a heat lamp a branch a heat rock on the floor the cage tray was so dirty with weeks of poop piled up in it nats flying around one iguanas tail had bad infection like something been chewing away on it water dirty lettuce in food bowl i felt bad then i told the guy what he needed to do to help take better care of them properly . he then told me i could take them or if i knew anybody who wanted them . i went back this week the 1 healthy male was adopted. the othe 2 were still in those bad conditions i told the girl there she should seperate the 2 and put Them both in seperate clean 55gallon tanks also to clean up the wounds on the 1 and take him to the vet i would like to adopt the female for my male but god knows how far gone and what medical treatment she might need also i have alot right now a python, cornsnake ,iguana,2birds,fish and a dog that i take excellent care of if i get anymore pets my dd said he would call the aspca on me. so i better not push my luck i couldnt sleep for 2 nights thinking about those iguanas hopefully somebody will adopt the others and get them on their feet see ya mike
