: What tools are use and how does one go about trimming the iguana's nails. Those things are raiser sharp?
When I took Phoenix to the vet last weekend, the vet was so kind as to trim them for me. He told me that you trim their claws just like you would a cat or dog's. In pet stores, you can find these funny looking things that you use to trim cat/dog claws. My vet said it would be just fine to use one of those. Now, he had two smaller ones that were specially made for igs, but I don't know if most pet stores carry those.
I think that the hard part is getting your ig to let you trim his/her claws. I think that the most effective way to do this would be to have someone hold the ig still (they will still squirm and stuf, so be careful) and then you go around to each claw and clip off just the very tip of it. Ig's have nerves that go into their claws, just like dogs and cats, so if you cut too much off, you'll really hurt your ig. My vet seemed to take less than a centimeter off of each claw. I also noticed that Phoenix has sort of clear claws, so I see where his nerve is in there.
Good luck clipping, and happy igging!!!
