Before I ever visited this forum, long ago, I thought about mating Salvador, so that I might have one of his children iglets (since I loved him so and thought there couldn't be a better ig temprament out there) At the time I didn't even know that there were so many unwanted igs out there looking for homes. But I started thinking of all the people that would come up to me when I had Salvador with me (he was 5ft). Every single person would say the same exact thing: "What is that?" I would tell them an iguana. "really, I didn't know they got that big. I had one but it died (or) my friend had one but it died" "What do you feed it? bugs?" In my 7 years of having Salvador not one person ever told me that they had an iguana that was still alive-- and all of their's died when they were juveniles. After pondering these facts for some time, I realized that I would not trust ANYBODY with Salvador's younguns-- and I certainly could not take care of all of them myself. I just couldn't bare the idea that one of his offspring would die due to ignorance or neglect. And he was a rescue himself (with burns, cuts, viral bumps all over him) when I got him.

So in the end, I decided without even knowing there was a shortage of homes for rescued iguanas, that most people couldn't be trusted with an iguana anyway! Something to think about if you intend to go through with this... Do you really trust these people with your ig's offspring? Are they really going to take care of them for 15 years if they whip and bite and are nasty clawing horny igs? I think you know that the liklihood is slim. There is a great liklihood that these igs will end up as rescues if they are lucky, or dead if they are not so lucky...
