Let me start by saying that I use about 3 or 4% friuts in thier diet. I noticed and I'm reading the other responses to your question my-self. Their diet and lighting was my hardest battle with my Iguanas. People do different things and it does get confusing. I tend to use what others do on this forum because of their experience. I may start giving more fruit now because Harry's Dad does. :o) Here is a list below thats a good starting place for you too. I wrote it a few days ago for someone else. She had questions about alfalfa...so you'll see it mentioned a few times..............Give your Iguanas different things all the time. Don't make the same thing every day. Alfalfa really isn't that great of an idea. You don't want to give then something contaminated with salmonella and e-coli. I am a big believer in MK and usually don't dissagree with too many issues. But most alfalfa is loaded with junk they don't need. Parsnips are ok shredded in their food every once in a while. Shredded carrot too. I use two bowls everyday for mine. All the leafy greens in one...like a mix of collard, endive, mustard greens and a few other select things. I use about three different greens a day. In a sep. bowl I use....cut in real tiny pieces...all fresh veggies, green beans, sugar snap peas, yellow squash, cucumber, radish, celery, red or orange peppers...they like the green ones but color is appealing to them, mushrooms, you can put a little bean sprouts...the whilte ones that you eat in chinese food. Make sure their real fresh and soak them for about 10 min first. I rank them close to alfalfa but can't find anything bad written about them. I don't use them much either. This is a good base...add every once in a while a little raw broccoli, tomatoe or some chives. Put about 3% fruit in this mix like peeled apple and red grapes. Blueberries, mangos, watermelon, melons in general and strawberries they love too. You can put in a separate bowl some avocado or oranges. I try not to mix things that turn yucky quicky in with the rest of their food. In general some friuts go bad quickly so if you feed them once a day, try not to mix things in that turn brown and rotten quickly. They eat like little pigs and eat some of everything. It's work but ...they eat good and they always have some food left over that I toss out. I probably put about 4 cups of the mix and 4 giant handfulls of torn leafy greens in daily....for two adult Igs. Good luck deceiding what to do...:o)
