Hi Bon,

Q broke a leg bone on two different occasions, and
neither time did our vet recommend a cast of any
type. Of course, Q was a special case. My vet
believed (perhaps erroneously) that Q could absorb
water through the cloaca by soaking in the tub for
half an hour each day. He couldn't soak with a
cast, so no cast was used.

Instead, the vet recommended restricting Q's ability
to roam and climb. You can imagine how hard that
was! I removed all the climbing aparatus from Q's
enclosure and restricted his roaming time. There
were times, however, where I simply had to let Q
out to roam because his scrabbling to get out of
him enclosure was more potentially damaging than
roaming.

In each case, Q's broken bones healed well, even
though his kidney damage affected his ability to
process calcium properly.
