For one thing, could you imagine trying to hit one of their viens in a place you could leave a catheter? The tail is probably about the only option. If the ig is still well enough to move around at all, it would probably just pull everything out. That's why we dont' give cats iv fluids often. They don't tolerate it well. In small critters, we generally go with sub-q fluids. Yes, it's a little painful (although once the needle is in, most animals tolerate it pretty well. Unfortunately, there's just no good way to give fluids to an ig that won't drink...

: I saw the sad news about Lisas' Ig. :o( Isn't there anything the vet can do ? I lost a 16 yrs old dog because of kidney failure. She had several problems at 17 though. If she would have been young enough I thought the vet could have saved her with IV fluids and meds. Can't her Ig be helped this way...whats the deal on Igs vs Kidney failure. So sorry to read that sad news................ :o(
