be careful to not sneak up on me! sometimes it might seem like i'm looking at you, but i'm really zoned out ... i mean ... meditating and it scares me to all of a sudden see you *right there*!!! move slowly + start talking to me from across the room so i know you're there ...
i'm very brave now that i am a big boy, but i still don't like it when someone stands over me + looks down at me ... and it was very scary when i was little!!! i like to be able to be at least at eye-level with you, even better, i like to be a bit higher than you so i can look down on you ... it makes me feel safer and less like i'm gonna be a snack ... (cuz in the wild, just about everything tries to eat igs and so we have to be very very careful all the time)
i really hate it when i just get grabbed + picked up!!! i taught my humommy the *right* way to pick me up (she's soooo smart! *bobobob*) ... if you put your hand underneath me, about where my gorgeous tail connects to my handsome body (kinda between my back legs) and let me grab onto you with my back legs *before* you pick the rest of me up, i feel safer + less like i'm gonna fall or get dropped ... once you have the back of me supported, you can put your other hand underneath my chest + pick me up ... well ... this might not work for a little baby iglet ... but it will help for when he's a little bit bigger ... point is, it's scary to just be *grabbed* so if you can figure out any other way to do it, that's good!
i don't really like to sit on laps ... too low! shoulders are pretty good to sit on cuz then i can look right at you ... i really like to sit on humommy's head but she gets upset when i use her ears to hold on to ... (why else are they there!?!?)
the biggest most important thing you have to know is that igs aren't like silly dogs or cats ... it takes us a long time to decide to like you + to be able to trust you ... nothing personal, it's just how we are ... we want to make sure you're gonna be around for a while + if you have the patience + time to help us get over being afraid of you, we will love you for a very long time!!!
