You have lots of reading ahead of you! :) Your little guy probably seems kinda calm right now because he is scared to death of you. He's not sure whether you are a friend or foe yet. When they are small and they feel threatened, their main defense is to "play dead" as you described. Get ready for a change though...as he gets settled in and realizes you aren't going to eat him, he will get a little more squirmy on ya. Check out the following links....you didn't mention what you're feeding him, his set up, etc and these web sites will get you started with some great info.
