Two things came to mind when I read your post. I'll share my thoughts with you but YOU keep in mind that I might be completely wrong LOL

1st thought was could it be a dehydration problem? When you say base of tail do you mean where the tail connects to the body? When you look at this area from above do you see like a side-ways diamond shape form? If you do, this is usually a sign of a dehydration problem. Does your iguana have access to water at all times? Do you mist him daily? Does he get some food that has a lot of moisture in it; i.e. grated squash?

2nd thought......is that full belly really a swollen belly due to parasites? You might see about getting a check up with a herp vet thoroughly knowledgeable in iguanas. A fecal exam would let you know if there were parasites present & treatment could begin. I've read the same thing about gut flora & feces eating. Not a pretty sight but I've seen it in action.

A trip to the vet would ease your mind & find anything that needs to be addressed to be sure that your iguana will lead a full & happy life.

Get back in touch with an update. I've learned a lot at this forum from people's questions & answers. I'm pretty new to this one but I've had our oldest iguana over 4 years now & find there are still questions!
