Lisa,

Our first ig Frankie was about 3 to 4 years old when we got him. Needless to say, his cage was too small, so we let him free roam. Unfortunately, we have wide temperature extremes here and he suffered kidney failure due to it ( according to the vet ), by the way, this is what got me into building large, expensive rain-forest climate enclosures.

Frankie suffered exactly like your ig. In retrospect it would have been better for him not to have gone through that much agony before he died ( I was not at home unfortunately ).

I think that it is better for the animal to have a painless sleep in order to pass away. It's hard for us who care for our animals, but, putting our feelings aside and dealing with the ultimate outcome is what is best. I would want our animals and probably myself to have our last moments in comfort and rest.
