Are they as friendly as a dog or cat...no. I have 2 bearded dragons that are down right cuddly and will snuggle into your neck. Has Sneakers my iguana ever done that? No. He does like to be in the same room with us and he does climb up my husbands or our shoulder when were on the computer to see what is going on. Sneakers is fun to watch and interact with. He knows that the bathroom is where he gets his bath, rub down, nail clipping, overall look over once a day and will permit it. Once out in one of the other rooms its time for climbing, sunning, and investigating. Friendlyness will depend on how much time your willing to spend each day.
My ig was actually obtained for my 2 teenagers. They are both scared to death of him now and he is only 2 years old and about 3 1/2ft long. So now he belongs to my husband and I. Another thing to consider is expense. There cage has to be quite large. We built a cage out of a closet and it will be to small when he is full grown. Tanks are basically out of the question. A 55gal tank will maybe last you 6 months. That is just the caging...there is also lighting, heating, humidifiers, vets (not easy to find), and food prepreation. The off the shell food isn't very good.
I love my Sneakers and think he is great, but I want you to see the down side also. One more thing, if you decide you don't want your iguana a couple of years down the road, there is almost no one who will want it and you will be giving your $300-$500 cageing and setup away free.
Joan (think of them as a small(only 6ft), vegetarian, alligator. Still interested)
