--Yesterday morning when I got to work, I was sitting out in our garage area trying to gear up for my day, when a pickup truck pulled in and backed up to the garage door. A fella got out and said that he had called the League yesterday about an iguana that he needed to turn over to us. It had belonged to his friend, and the friend was going to turn it loose outside, because it was getting too big, and he didn't want it anymore. Anyway, with great caution I peered over the tailgate of his pickup truck to the open custom built tank that was sitting in the truck bed. It's a great tank-- but no iguana. I thought "This ig has got to be humungus by the size of this tank", and asked him where it was at. He thankfully had it in the cab of the truck in a very large box. I'm still a little freaked out by reptiles, but getting better--so I ask--"Is it very tame?" "Oh No," the guy says--"It'll bite you and whip the heck out of you with his tail--I was going to keep it myself, but I just can't handle it and my wife doesn't like it." I'm thinking, "Oh great, I'm scared now and the iguana will know it." I went back to my little room and got my "bite gloves" that go clear up my arms, and prepared the tank for my new friend. (using all your suggestions and knowledge has helped so much!!) I got the tank all ready and took a few deep breathes to prepare myself for this huge monster that was going to leap out of this box when I lifted the lid. I lifted it a crack--couldn't see--too dark--nothing happened. Lifted the lid more, and there on a big flat rock sat one, less than 12-inch long, little green iguana. What a cutie! I picked him up, ever so gently, and put him in his palace. He didn't try to bite, or whip his tail. I think I'm even starting to grow fond of the little guy. Thanks to all of you for the information--better than I could get in any book.
