: For an iguana to have a bump in it's tail? I might be getting this iguana that has a bump in her tail and the lady that Im getting her from says she got it when she was younger and it's normal. Can you let me know some information on that...
: Thanks
There is a good possibility that it could be an abcess, which is an infection under the skin. From what Debbie told me, this iguana is not housed under the best conditions, most likely causing stress. Stress, poor diet, and inadequate temperatures can bring on a low immune system, leaving an iguana susseptible to infection. Common places for abcesses are located on toes, tails, and head regions. They also can be located inside their organs and tissues which can be hidden from the naked eye. Both surface and internal abcesses are dangerous and can be deadly if not treated appropriately, as infection spreads throughout the body...not just in that local area.
Another possibility for the bump could be a break in the tail, caused by accident and/or from lack of calcium.
It could also be a calcium deposit as well, caused by other hormonal issues, etc.
