Some plants will grow good inside, others probably won't. I would, as recommended before, try to get all of old soil off a new plant and replant it in clean, chemical free soil again. After that, I would probably wait at least 6 months before using any of the items off of it (leaves or flowers) do to the possible leftover chemicals in the plant. I have read also, that they can be planted from seed, but I haven't ever seen seeds for sell. Plants range from $5.00 to $35.00 and up depending on the type.
Let me look today and see if I can find a hibiscus forum board for you and I'll post it this afternoon or tonight.
