: ok, I was just in a chat room on AOL, and 3 people in there say it's ok to feed ig's stuff like pinkies and crickets, and I try to explan that animal protien is not good for them at all[snip]:

Hi, Murphey

Green iguanas should not be fed animal protein at any point in their lives. Perhaps a wee bit of cheese of something isn't going to kill an iguana, in the same manner that ingesting just a tiny bit of, say, soap isn't going to kill you. The question is, why eat soap (or feed igs animal protein)? There's no reason to. There are no benefits on a green ig's health from eating AP. Too much animal protein, too regularly, will indeed kill them. Kidney failure is a very common ailment (and cause of death) in iguanas that have been fed animal protein. Pinkies are obviously animal protein, and so are crickets, and so is cheese and milk and eggs! Feel free to forward this post or whatever to your "buddies" in the AOL chatroom. Better yet, send them to this URL(hyper-linked at bottom): http://www.milagros.net/caiman/animalpr.htm This was written by Austrailian zoologist Adam Britton.
