I've been a person mom for 13 years now. When I had my first son 13 yrs. ago I quit work & became a stay-at-home mom. I distinctly remember the day I sat down and SOBBED thinking I'd never eat a hot meal again! There was always something needing to be done, fed or changed. Thank goodness my in-laws gave us a microwave!! That helped that particular problem.
My point is that I don't know how much time you'd have for Phoenix. He's not like a dog that won't let you forget to feed him. Any free time that you have you will need to spend on yourself....take a nap, take a shower, take a nap, phone a friend, take a nap. Naps are good! LOL
Five years later I had boy/girl twins. What free time? LOL
It wasn't until the twins were 4 that we got our first iguana. At that age you can pretty much make them understand what they can & cannot do around a large reptile.
Iz's mom makes very valid points on the dangers there for both the iguana and the baby. You have some serious thinking to do before you can decide whether to keep him. Our kids are 13 and 8/8 now. The twins only pet the iguanas; they have never held them. I know what the claws can do to my tough old skin; I don't want to see what they can do to the little ones. I've never worried about salmonella from any of the reptiles because there's an over abundance of handwashing at this house LOL
Congratulations on the impending birth of your little bundle of joy!!! Enjoy every single moment...they grow soooo fast.
