if untreated, *any* infection can spread and cause serious problems and yes, death ... if you know or even suspect your ig has mouth rot or any other kind of infection it is extremely important to see an ig-vet and get the proper treatment ASAP!
my 3yo ig came very very close to dying last fall and now has massive kidney damage due to an undetected, untreated low grade bacterial infection ... i am still unsure of how the original infection started! but it spread throughout his body and permanently damaged his kidneys before we realized the cause of his problems ... it is a miracle that he survived at all but chances are, he will not live to a ripe old age ...
