The yogurt is to re-establish the "good" bacteria; it does not destroy the "bad bacteria". So it would have no effect (affect?) on any salmonella.
It's use is only recommended for recovering reptiles OR those who are completing a series of antibiotic therapy. When highly stressed/injured/malnourished, the gut flora gets out of kilter...yogurt helps to adjust it. When taking antibiotics...the medicine doesn't care whether it's destroying good or bad bacteria---so about 1-2 days just prior to finishing the Rx it is recommended that a bit of yogurt be given for a few days to help re-establish what the Rx killed off.
