This can be dangerous-- many lizards have died a horrible death with this type of setup-- especially in warmer climates like Texas/Florida,etc. The sun through the window can heat up a glass tank many degrees-- and quickly cook your ig. A shady place may still be way too hot because glass doesn't venthilate, even with an open top. It is much better to have a heat lamp controlled by a temp controller-- which turns it on and off depending on how hot your tank gets.
I don't mean to burst your bubble, but I remember reading a horrible post and how upset the person was-- who cooked their iguana this way. Apparantly they said, it looked like the iguana struggled and ripped apart the cage, trying to escape before dying. It sounded ghastly (and I know I've read more than one account). It's kinda like leaving your pet in your car in the summer-- doesn't take too long before it can overheat and die-- especially animals that cannot sweat-- reptiles, dogs, etc.
Anyway there are many other heating solutions that you can come up with that are safer than trusting the sun through a window!
