Here's a couple things you can try:
1. Soak Fatty in warm water, making sure you get her spikes emmersed. AFter she's out of the bath but before she's dry, slather her spikes in KY-Jelly. KY-Jelly works well because it's odorless, greaseless (water-based), and non-toxic (so long as you get the kind without non-oxynol 9, of course!). If you put it on her spikes before they are dry, the KY will seal the moisture in and loosen them up easily. After setting for a half-hour or so, they should come free with gentle massaging. If not, repatition is the key. :)
2. Spray her down with liquid aloe vera, paying special attention to her spikes. Liquid aloe vera usually comes in a big jug and is marketed for humans to drink to condition their inner workings. It works real well for most sheds.
3. Massage a little vitamin E (poke a hole in a vitamin E capsule) and massage them into her spikes, starting at the base and working up.
4. For really incredibly stubborn sheds, heavy hand cream with glycerin in it, generously smeared on and massaged in like I mentioned above, will generally get stubborn spike sheds off. Just remember to rinse the lotion off next time he's in the tub. :)
These are all seperate ideas, BTW. You don't need to do them all to remove a spike shed, generally.
Good luck!
