how old is your son??? i have 2 granddaughters who are at my house quite alot (*grin*) ... one just turned 2yo, the other is one month old tomorrow ... it's different than having young ones around all the time like you, but here's my thoughts ...
Sara (2 yo) is not allowed anywhere *near* iZ ... 90% of the time he is a sweetheart but i have a great scar on my wrist from where he sunk his teeth to the bone so i take no chances ... i know how fast iZ can move when he's startled! don't under-estimate that! she likes to watch him take a bath and she knows that he is *not* like the other animals around here! she has to be quiet around him + can't touch him ... (the dog wishes he was an iguana!)
take super good precautions against salmonella and it shouldn't be a worry ... iZ uses the bathtub as a potty and it is cleaned with bleach when he's done ... i try not to handle him when the kids are around, but that's not always possible ... so i make sure to scrub my hands/arms good with soap and if i've been handling him 'alot' (like up against my body) i change shirts before playng with the kids ...
don't wash Spike's dishes in the kitchen sink or put them on the kitchen counter ...
Salmonella is a concern when you have little ones cuz they are more susceptable to it than grownups ... *everyone* in my family has been instructed to see a doctor immediately if they get diarrhea and to tell the doc it may be salmonella ... treated right away, it shouldn't be a big deal ...
