Come on over to the UNOFFICIAL chuckwalla and desert ig forum( CHUCK FORUM). I have some in an outside pen (in Houston TX area)so I don't have a "controlled" environment. Yea- they will tear up insects but PROBABLY need no more than a 10-20% bug diet.Lots of sun and heat. There are several folks that post on the chuck forum with a lot of experience with desert herps.

I teach high school zoology and we may be getting some desert iguanas from a friend of mine. I have lots of experience in keeping many kind of herps, but I'd like some words of advice from those who have personally kept these iguanas before. In a nutshell, I know them to be desert animals that need a really high-temp hot spot for basking. Also, I know some people that have fed their desert igs a 50/50 mix of veggies and insects, but this friend who may be giving me his igs told me they eat all veggies, much like green iguanas do. Well guys, what do you think?
