Yes, you can get sterile potting soil from Lowe's, but they mostly carry this Smart-Soil brand that comes with fertilisers and other chemicals built in, and you probably don't want that. EYE would recommend your local grain elevator, feed store or going to a nursery. Our elevator sells several different kinds of potting soil, with and without vermiculite and having different formulations, and they DON'T come chemically pre-treated. There should Be someone at any of those places that could tell you FOR SURE that the soil is or isn't sterilised, but for the most part they don't sell it any other way. You can also make your own if you have a good compost heap and something big enough to hold it in in the oven. I know I have recipes somewhere and if you want 'em I'll look 'em up and post 'em. That way you can Be absolutely sure of what is and is not in it.
