Welcome to male headbobbin 101. Sounds like your boy lizard is trying to show who is boss around the house. If he's 2 years old, he is heading into his sexual maturity phase.
When he bobs and does the open mouth display, please use caution! He might attempt to bite you. Does he also *swish* his tail, lean sideways, have an evil look in his eyes? All of this is known as *posturing* and he's warning you.
What I would suggest you do is still try to handle him (with caution). When our male is in a really really evil mood, I'll throw a towel over him and scoop him up and hold him. Or I'll throw the towel over him and then remove it while he's on the sofa or whatever, and pet him (give him head nubbies). Watch his eyes and his mouth though! Iguanas can move extremely fast and turn on a dime when they want to. Keep him away from your face and neck.
The good news/bad news is, some males will behave this way when they are in season. As soon as their *season* is over, they will resume how they were prior to it. Some males (Harry) never snap out of it. We have learned to live with him, good or bad.
Good luck with your iguana.

: For several days, iggie has been head bobbing and opening his mouth towards me - so I've been leaving him alone - and not taking him out of his cage - is this the right thing to do and about how long does this usually last = iggie is 2 years old.
