Hakan I took one look at your post below...and decided I better "sleep on it" lololol I sure hope you 2 aren't offended by me tying these two topics together but they are kinda related to the post I made below...I am so tired (just got home from work) so hoping what I post here makes sense, this is ONLY the way *I* understand dry matter. When I posted the protein content of dandelion in the post below that was not based on DM but "as fed;fresh;raw" Dry matter is a term used regarding the moisture content in foods namely feed, forage foods like alfalfa pellets, hays and LEGUMES!! I hate legumes (for my igs anyway )!! There are just way too many variables regarding the digestibility of dry matter...what kind of soil the feed/beans is grown in, what kind of storage is used prior to market, any other added moisture to it (cooked) etc. The labels on the legumes you buy should specify what the DM/Moisture Content is. I left a formula at IgResearch for you Hakan. Another thing with dry matter depends on how much fat there is in the diet...so the higher the fat content (some beans are high fat) in the food...the higher the dry matter...As fat is decreased in the diet so the dry matter basis decreases.
70-90% plant protein is absorbed. So if your feeding heavy fatty beans you are taxing your igs system quite heavily! Mature igs don't need it in my opinion!. When I posted also that the RDA of 0.8 g/kg protein...I need to remind you that those RDA figures are for humans (omnivores) I would try to keep it even lower than that for our igs. Maybe even in half! I posted that my igs based on their weights (9lbs) based on the RDA would be getting 3.2 grams of protein daily in their diet. I would be surprised if my igs get even close to that amount of protein in their diets currently. I'll have to figure it out once Ive gotten some sleep! lolol
Hakan...here is a site I think you might be interested in from one barefoot nutritionist to another ;-) Read it over VERY carefully....legumes towards the bottom of the page. Sure hope this helps! To tell you the truth dry matter basis & moisture content confuse the heck outta me!
