See, this is why i started big since Soni was little, to prevent all the stress issue.
BUT, here's what you can do:
1) 'duplicate' as much as possible the old cage, so the new enviro wont look so 'new' to him.
2) put the 55 gal. next to the "mansion", so he can travel back and forth between the two. He should end up liking more the latter, since it's bigger, taller, and therefore making him feel more secure.
3) you may take something from the 55 gal. in the large encl., so the scent will be familiar to him.
if you do it right, the stress should't be too drastic. igs are quiet curious by nature, so a "good change" will be beneficial in the LONG-RUN, at the cost of a little stress in the SHORT-RUN.
good luck, post us some pics!
: My new Ig cage(7X4X8) is suppose to be done this week. I will be decorating the cage.
: I'm putting a nice size mortar tub to use for a water pool and I am going to put sterile
: potting soil in there on one side and indoor/outdoor carpet on the other. Big tree limbs, shelf, and a hide spot.
: Question: What is the best way to get Ziggi use to the new cage, he is currently in a 55G, he is not a year old yet,
: and a little under 2 feet, so this new cage will be a mansion. I want to make sure the move doesn't stress him out.
: Will he search out his food, or do I show him where its at? Don't want him to starve, and I'm gonna put the food on the bottom
: on the other side of the cage opposite the basking area? Should I put it close to begin with, maybe on his shelf?
: He's gonna look so little in this big cage! Thanks.
