: Hello.
: I am not sure if you are actually using "chicken wire" if so, that could be the reason he is losing nails. I read on the iguana den home page, a story about a woman who used chicken wire in her enclosure, when she was told not to. There are pics of the injured ig on that website. Anyway, if you are not using "chicken wire" then dont worry about that being the cause. My opinion on astro turf is, its great. I have a young ig (well, about 1year3mos old) on astro turf. I think it looks alot nicer in his enclosure, its easy to disenfect, and its cheap. The only place that turf gets lose strings or fibers is on the edges. I burn my edges with a lighter. I think we all have our prefs on substrate. If your astro turf has lots of lose strings, then its possible, but, like I said, they are always on the edges, I dont know of many igs who sit on the edges of the enclosure, on the floor. Mine is always way up high on his basking branches. Some igs like to hang from their wire mesh on the enclosures. Mine doesnt. This could also be a possibility for the nail loss. If he doesnt climb that, or hang from it, then I dont see a problem. Other than that, you got me on the nail loss situation. Sorry I couldnt really help much on this. Yvette
Hi,
Thanks for replying. It's not exactally chicken wire, but it is a wire. It's made up of squares
and he does climb on it and hang on it. This is probably the problem. He has branches and a big
high shelf, but he still does this. I should probably redo his encloser and maybe cover it with something else, BUT WHAT?? HELP! :)
