: Hello =) I am 6mos pregnant with my 1st baby.
That is nerve wracking to me as is. Anyway, I
always new that my iguana could have salmonella.
When I handle her or her things, I wash my hands
when done. She does free roam sometimes, walks on
the carpet and couch. I found an article here on
kingsnake that really scared me. It talks about
the dangers of "indirect" contact. It also says to
"remove the reptile from the home of someone under
5yrs of age". As far as I know, salmonella is not
airborne. I do not want to give my iguana away.
My iguana is very special to me, she's a member of
this family. I wont give my iguana away. I feel
that if I handle her and her things with caution I
will eliminate the threat of "indirect" salmonella
contamination to the baby. As far as I know,
chicken contains high levels of salmonella, why
dont they warn against cooking chicken in your
home till the child is over 5yrs old? Btw, I dont
eat chicken, Im a vegetarian. Anyway, could
anyone offer me any insight on this subject?
Thank you, Yvette
