that the reason that the CDC states that no home with children under 5 should have reptiles is, children that age tend to touch things and then put their fingers in their mouths. Under 5 yrs, they do not automatically wash their little hands unless told or you do it for them.
I agree with Iz's mom. As long as you take certain percautions, you should be just fine. I've said it before, out of everyone I have known who has reptiles, only one person has ever contacts salmonella (it was an adult). This includes homes with children.
Now relax a little bit about the baby. I'd be more worried about the lack of sleep you will have for the next 5 yrs., no hot meals, how your clothes will never fit the same, ear infections, etc. LOL
