Hello, my iguana is litter box trained.
I used to do the tub pooping, but, honestly didnt like it. It was a pain having to disenfect the tub all the time.
Anyway, my ig has a cat litter box in her cage. I never use cat litter, only Lizard Litter brand substrate. That substrate is supposed to be harmeless if ingested. I have not had a problem yet.
On a daily basis I clean out fresh poops with a cat litter scooper. Once a week I throw out the litter, wash and disenfect the box and put fresh litter. My ig is also a roamer. Her cage is open so she can come roam the house for exercise.
Now the hard part, training igs to use the litter box. It took me about 3mos to have her completely trained. It took patience and a carpet steam cleaner (for the accidents on the carpet). I learned my igs mannerisms right before poop time, when she would start looking in corners, or parting her legs I would get her and put her in the box, then I had to stand there and not let her out until she pooped (usually about 3min). I had to do this often. At first I had to leave poop in the box for a day for two so she would associate box with poop.
My iguana was already about 1.5yrs old when I trained her. We already had established a great relationship, I think that helps in training.
Welp, hope this helps. Any questions, just ask =) Good luck, Yvette and Gwaners
