: According to your post, the vet could NOT feel the kidneys. Wouldn't that indicate that there's no swelling?
He said that the were not extremly swollen...none that he could feel anyway...
: You also say he is defecating normally/well. I thought that when the kidneys were acting up there was the problem of having difficulty defecating due to their enlargement?
I assumed that but the vet said no.....he could poo with damaged kidneys....
: Aren't steroid shots to help reduce edema/inflammation? And if it's not there, then why would a shot be necessary?
I believe the shot was a way to help diagnose this... to see if he got better in a week or not....
: Okay, now Raven, did he do an x-ray to look for any bone damage that might be causing his dragging? Feel muscles, etc. etc. Look for signs of mechanical injury?
he gave him a full examfelt his back and legs and theres no noticable skelatal damage.....But no Xray ....
: I'm just really troubled by what I (the nonprofessional) see as a lack of kidney problem symptoms. But I may be TOTALLY wrong and he's seeing something that we can't see thru a forum. Did he give you any specifics behind his reasoning?
He said he had seen iguanas like this before and that they can use their tail to help them balance but not their legs....And that the kidneys are right near the spine an would affect the back legs....
: If you'd like to post what you normally feed him *daily*, there are those here who wouldn't mind going over it to look for any changes needed to help those kidneys. Just from what you posted, kale is okay as an occasional not a daily because it is a goitergenic food.
well... he gets lots of different vegatables depending on the day...His diet this week has been heavy in collards...hes also had mango, orange, kale, dandilions, and snow peas...I get different stuff for him all the time....(I shy away from brocli and bananas.....
Geez, I can't remember how old he is! Do you supplement daily, weekly, monthly--or not usually but are now during illness? Age makes the difference in recommended supplementation.
Hes 2... he gets a calcium supplement (T-rex) twice a week...he hates it so i hand feed him fruit thats been dipped in it....So I really dont know the exact dosage...Id say about 1/2 a teaspoon or so....
: Hope he begins showing signs of improved mobility quickly!
