I know in dogs when you start clipping your dogs nails on a regular basis the quick actually goes back and will kinda shrink up. I don't know if lizards do this but if so just keep up on the really sharp pointy edge. It doesn't take a lot to notice the difference. If you cut to much use some quick stop to stop the bleeding. As long as you don't cut the whole nail off a bleeder isn't a problem just keep your eye on it. It helps if you have two people helping to hold the iguana. wrap him in a towel and the hold him and his tail, and the other person cuts. Cover his eyes so he calms down and stays that way. Take your time.
