Whole wheat bread is fine for an occasional snack or treat. Most igs like it a lot and it's an ok source of plant protein. Also works great for giving powdered calcium suppliments, vitamins, or medications to picky igs. My Shakai will stand up and beg for it on hind feet.

As for putting a mirror in the cage: VERY bad idea, IMO. Especially if your iguana happens to be a male. Altho, even some females respond badly to this. Iguanas are very territorial, and when they see a mirror, most iguanas will pose for, bob/hiss/whip at, or attack the mirror. I once saw a huge male iguana who bashed his snout against a gladd wall he could see himself in, and had to go to the vet for his extreme injuries. Your iguana would probably drive him/herself into a state of high stress with a mirror in his/her constant line of sight.

HTH!

: Hey, since I've been skimming through this forum reading various items of interest I've noticed several times the mention of giving your Iguana a piece of bread for a snack? What's that all about? Is it healthy? Do you give white or wheat? Also, since my iguana is only a yearling is it too soon? Last, but not least, I wondered about the mirror thing. Think he'd like a mirror in his cage? I know they are extremely curious and like to explore. Let me know what kind of "toys" they like if you can. I haven't been bitten since tuesday and I know it's 'cause the advice about approaching him at his level and picking him up from underneath helped. He started shedding on his snout today so that could be why he has been so grouchy of late. Well, I'm rambling but SOOOO glad I found this site. I can use all the help you are willing to share! Thanks!
