I vote for a bearded dragon.
Igs are high maintenance and 15 yr min. commitment, which would also nix any though of a cyclura.
Tegus can be agressive and can be pretty big, around 4ft. Also, again, perhaps more maintenance than what your friend would want to give it - like every day.
I had Tokays. Pretty boring. Only come out at night. Love to bite. The only lizard I had to wear gloves for.
Frankly, I have seen large lizards, like igs and niles go for cheap. But all of them require a tremendous amount of time and upkeep, plus, they tend to live long. Enclosures, lights and everything else has probably cost me about $2500.00 in the last year. You have to have it straight in your mind to commit time, money, energy and education to the raising ( properly ) of your pet. Plus, if your friend feels later on that it's just too much, then it's a lot easier to adopt out a bearded dragon than any of the other choices.
