i agree that they should not be kept in the basement, i keep Soni in a guestroom next to mine, but the basement is the only spacious place to keep a lizard for him. Not everyone has the privilege of having a house big enough to make certain accomodations...
...which is also why someone should not get something they cannot properly keep.
I think he may go for the TEGU. They are famous for being almost smarter than certain varanus species. The diet is very wide-ranged, and tame as good.
I will give him all the proper websites, so he can decide well enough.

Thanks again for helping me out. Sometimes i'm afraid of being biast towards the favor of igs, and may give a wrong impression on their care.
