Is this natural???

Rex in the past two weeks had dug himself a small burrow in the dirt (Dandelion garden) in his cage, aren't Iguanas arboreal? I originally thought he was eating the roots ,but after he ate the dandelions I totally cleaned out his cage and put dirt back where the garden was but left out the plants he proceeded to dig another burrow. A few days later I decided to take all substrates out and replace them with news papers; he now flips up the pages and crawls through until he get to the area below his basking lamp. I keep the cage at the optimum temperatures so I don't think he might be cold.

PS anyone know anything about basilisks?
