Now to answer your question. In case your not the same Mike.
One- a 20 gallon may work for a baby. Mine is in a 40 gallon breeder tank. But they will need a much larger enclosure when bigger. Pulling off a tail well how would you like it. No don't do it If its a big iguana get some gloves for holding till it calms down. But a baby just hold it often and it will grow to trust you more My little guy tail whips my when I first pick him up. But quickly stops.
And don't pop him in the eye. Just keep your fingers away from his mouth.
