Howdy All,
With warmer weather arriving, we all must remember a few important things about taking our igs outside and/or leaving windows open in the house with a ig free roaming.
Never trust your iguana to stay in one place when outside, something could spook your iguana and cause it to flee. And for those who haven't experienced the speed of a free iguana...it will only take one time and it maybe the last time you see your iguana. Please do not chance it with your iguana, always either have your iguana in an outdoor enclosure or on a leash, while outside. Another tip if you're walking your iguana around on a leash, be careful of foreign objects, if there's one thing iguanas like to do, it's tasting things. Keep them away from sand or pebbles, these two items can cause major problems within their digestion track.
Another problem for summer is open windows, iguanas are skilled at knocking screens out of windows whether on the first floor or the second floor of a house or apartment. Fiberglass screening material is easier for an iguana tear apart.
A suggestion would be to get some hardware cloth that is 1/2" square, spray paint it black and then attach it to the outside of the window. This will stop any chances for the iguana to escape out the window.
If anyone else can think of any more tips, please post them. I wish the best to all and I hope no one has problems this summer, with iguanas gettin' loose.
