: Is a 20 gallon aquarium big enough to keep an iguana in? Also ive heard that in training an iguana if it attempts to bite you you should flick it in the eye to discourage the behaviour. Is this true? and If you have one that frequently attempts to whip you with its tail, you can pull it off, without causing great harm to the animal. Is this accurate?
:
MY GOD...WHERE DID YOU HEAR THIS?!
DO NOT EVER flick your iguana's eye or pull off it's
tail - That is like beating dog for barking..actually
it's like ripping off a dog's tail for barking. It
will not only make the iguana made, it will do serious
damage to it.
Anyway - iguanas will stop whipping, biting, etc. after
a certian period of time if they are gently and
regualarly (everyday) handled. This way they learn
that humans are not a threat to them and will become
comfortable around them. If you beat it for being
agressive and defensive, it will just learn to fear
you and will become more and more agressive. Eventually
you will have a five foot monster who tries to shred
you everytime you approach it.
Also - twenty gallons is the absolute bare minium for
a hatchling iguana and will be VERY quickly outgrown.
I would suggest starting with something like 50 or
60.
