Joan, sometimes when igs are shedding the small area of skin around the vent has a hard time completing the shed. It could be skin he is shedding or it could be a piece of hair, cloth, leaf stem......whatever, that has not passed completely. After his next soak and poop, use a washcloth to wipe his cute little green touche'. See if that dislodges the suspicious-looking 'thing'. Don't (for Sneaker's sake) pull on it to try to dislodge it! If it is a piece of hair it could cut the vent.
