We used to feed our igs with flat plastic plates. The plates would always be at the bottom of the cage. They would hit the plate with their tail, crawl on top of the plate, etc., their natural movements would just knock the plates down.
Now, the igs in the new enclosures have plastic bowls that I made holders for, which are a few layers of particle board with large enough holes to hold the bowls. This has worked great and all the food stays in the bowl and the bowl stays put.
