ground hogs have to constantly 'consume' their teeth, or else they grow WAY long, over their mouth, into their lower jaw!
Iguanas in the wild 'consume' their claws by constantly climbing/scratching agaisnt their enviroment.
Since in captivity they dont move a lot, and the surfaces are rather smooth, the nails keep on growing.
And again, there are differences in iguanas from different regions of South America. Some have longer spikes, otehrs show more pink in breeding season, etc.
Glad i could help!

: But why are her nails so long???
: In the pics I've seen of other igs
: their nails are almost stubby. Is it
: because her's weren't clipped on a
: regular basis?? I thought about filing
: her nails because they looked a little
: ragged after clipping but wasn't sure
: if this was a "good thing" I did notice
: she had a little trouble holding on
: to her branches afterward. Thanks
: Cheryl
