In Reply to: why we rant on about getting a *REAL IG-VET* .... posted by iZ's mom on April 22, 2000 at 00:13:04:
Sigh! Herp savvy vets are few and far between. That is why Sue, Des Wong, and Joan started The Herp Vet Connection. It is a list of vets that herpers recommend through personal experience. A large number of vets are ARAV members, but few are really hip to lizards.
Quick note on vets, our 1st iggy, Gwar, was sneezing on occasion. We, not knowing better, took her to a vet. He listened to her breathing, (without a tissue or such to keep the scales from rasping his 'scope), and said she had a respiratory infection, and gave her Baytril. We were to return every other day for shots. Lucky for us that we had a pet shop that KNEW lizards. The girls that ran the lizard section about fell over laughing! Gee, igs sneeze all the time to rid themselves of salt. Really! We were such newbies.
So, if you have a vet to recommend, send it to the Herp Vet Connection, the addy I'll post as a link!
Dan
