Why do you think they are called "the chicken of the tree"?
The fact that they are being used as a food source is actually helping them survive. As a farm raised food source, they produce more food per acre than cattle. Therefore the rainforests are not being slashed and burned to make room for cattle grazing. They are also releasing more iguanas back into the wild than they are "harvesting". It's not the most agreeable solution for many, but it does have it's benefits.
