XTA is right on the $, but here's another tip or two:
Iguanas have a parietal eye on top of their heads, that is sensitive to light changes. This helps avoiding birds of preys, etc. If you reach out to him from above, guess what?
SMACK!
SNAP!
You bleed, you cry, he's happy for "kicking your
@$$" (excuse mi french :). This is why it is often advised to have anclosures that also open a bit sideways, not just from the top. You can then insert "Mr. Hand" slowly toward him, and carefully 'pet him', to make him understand that you are not a predator. If you must enter from above, do it so on the opposite side of the cage, and approach him at 'ground level'.
Offering a treat will help gaining his trust, BUT:
DO NOT HABITUATE HIM TO HAND-FEEDING!
Taming a reptile that will eventually be 5'-6'+ is wise, so be patient, persistent, and caring (but careful with stressing the animal).
Add this tip to XTA's and you'll be fine.
Tell us how it goes ok?
C-YA!
