spend time with him, talk quietly. Be gentle but don't act afraid-- you are master. Hand feed. I've also heard you can put a shirt you've worn in his cage (with your scent to get him used to it). Pet him gently for short periods of time-- most of them aren't huge fans of petting anyway, but they should tolerate it when tamed, some may like it.
If he is the biting/whipping crazed iguana that many have had here, you can try the above but hopefully some of those owners will post ideas on avoiding injury while taming. I've had good luck with mine being afraid but not mean.
